Description
The Island of the Sun (Isla del Sol) is an island in the southern part of Lake Titicaca. It is part of the modern Plurinational State of Bolivia. Geographically, the terrain is hard; it is a rocky and mountainous island. There are no motor vehicles or paved roads. The main economic activity of the approximately 800 families on the island is agriculture, while fishing and tourism increase the subsistence economy. Of the various towns, Yumani and Cha’llapampa are the largest. Don’t miss out on visiting this place brimming with culture.
OVERVIEW
DAY 1:
We begin the tour at 7:30am to go to Copacabana, where we will first visit the Copacabana church. After lunch, we will go to the Isla del Sol by boat where we will have a light walk, visit the staircase of the Incas, and later arrive at our lodging to rest.
DAY 2:
After breakfast, we will start a walk to the archaeological center of the Incas where we will talk a bit about the history, then we will go to the Inca temple, later the boat will take us to Copacabana where we will have lunch, after which we will head back to La Paz.
