BIRD WATCHING & PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE BOLIVIAN JUNGLE 5D/4N

There, we can see a number of indigenous birds, among others, if we are lucky, the cock of the rocks (Rupicola Peruviana), hummingbirds, and parrots, as well as mammals– too many to describe here. OVERVIEW

DAY 1: LA PAZ – RURRENABAQUE – CHALALAN ECOLODGE

We start by boarding the plane from El Alto to Rurrenabaque for a flight of approximately 40 min.
After reaching Rurrenabaque, we will board a canoe to the Chalalan Ecolodge.
In the afternoon, you will have an opportunity to take the best nature pictures.

DAY 2: TUICHI RIVER

After breakfast, we will walk along a path, photographing medicinal plants, birds, insects, butterflies, etc.
After lunch, we will go to the viewpoint to see how immense the Amazon jungle is.
At night, we can walk by the lagoon to photograph caimans, among others animals.

DAY 3: TUICHI RIVER – RURRENABAQUE – PAMPAS

After breakfast, we walk to the river to start the return trip to Rurrenabaque.
On the way, we will visit the Caquiahuara cliff.
After lunch, we will continue in a motorized canoe, in order to photograph a large number of birds such as parrots, among others.

DAY 4: PAMPAS

Early in the morning we will sail on the Yacuma River.
After lunch, we will go in search of the famous pink dolphins, turtles, monkey, etc.
At night, you can go for a canoe ride to photograph caimans.

DAY 5: PAMPAS – RURRENABAQUE

Breakfast early in the morning, to continue looking for more wildlife to photograph.
We return for lunch to the hostel, and then return directly to the Rurrenabaque airport and later arrive in La Paz.

Itinerary

DAY 1: LA PAZ – RURRENABAQUE – CHALALAN ECOLODGE

At the Alto International Airport, we’ll board the plane to go to the picturesque town of Rurrenabaque, a flight of approximately 40 minutes. If the sky is clear, you will have a panoramic view of the beautiful Cordillera Real of the Andes, the Yungas, and the Amazon. Upon arrival in Rurrenabaque, you’ll be transferred from the airport to the port to start the trip in a motorized canoe along the Beni and Tuichi Rivers. On the tour, you will have great opportunities to photograph the spectacular landscapes such as the Serranía del Bala, local people traveling in small canoes, and wildlife. Upon arrival at the port of the Chalalan Ecolodge, a 30-minute walk takes us to the lodge located on the shores of Lake Chalalan. In the afternoon, there will be more photo opportunities from the viewpoint and the lake. (L, D)

DAY 2: TUICHI RIVER

Today, we will walk different trails in search of opportunities to photograph insects, flora, and fauna. Our local guides will show you wildlife, what can be observed, and the traits of different types of birds and mammals. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a visit to the viewpoint from where you can see the beautiful landscape that surrounds Lake Chalalán and the Serranía del Mamuque, a very good opportunity for landscape photography. At night, we can go canoeing on the lake to photograph caimans, frogs, etc. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: TUICHI RIVER – RURRENABAQUE – PAMPAS

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we walk to the water to start the return trip to Rurrenabaque in our motorized canoe. On the way, we will visit the Caquiahuara cliff where we will have great opportunities to photograph colorful macaws, other parrots, and hopefully more fauna such as peccaries and other species of monkeys. Once in Rurrenabaque, our transport will take us to the Bolivian Savannahs or Pampas. This trip takes approximately 3.5 hours to reach the lodge located on the banks of the Yacuma River. After a short rest, we board a motorized canoe to go in search of opportunities to photograph capybaras, monkeys, pink dolphins, and a wide variety of birds. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: PAMPAS

Early in the morning, we will again navigate the Yacuma River looking for opportunities to take more photographs, where we can leave the canoe to walk to the Pampa in search of anacondas– hopefully one will be found which can be photographed from close by, without touching it. We return to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon, you’ll have more opportunities to go in search of pink dolphins, turtles, monkeys and capybaras. If desired, at night there is an option to ride the canoe to observe lizards and caimans. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: PAMPAS – RURRENABAQUE

Breakfast early in the morning to continue the search for more wildlife– our last chance to find animals that we did not see before. Return to the lodge for an early lunch and then back to Rurrenabaque direct to the airport to board the plane bound for the city of La Paz. (B, L, D)
